I apologise to regular readers for the rather Anlgo Saxon language in the recen comment thread; I got rather bored and irritated by one individual who could not admit that he had either mis-read, or had not read the whole post. No matter how many times I said that what he was going on about was not what I was actually saying, he insisted on trotting out this single tiny idea that he has lodged in his head which had nothing whatever to do with my point.

He accuses me of picking the argument; make me laugh why don't you! I posted what in my view was and is a valid opinion, he picked the argument based on a complete misconception of what I was actually saying and trying to force his view down my throat, when actually I do not disagree with what he was saying, and said so. My point was and still is that what he was saying had nothing whatever to do with my original point; how can one have a reasoned debate with such closed minds?

He trotted out a list of people who he says represent English Culture; well I would like to point out that the first person, William Shakespeare, we actually know very little about anyway; he undoubtedly produced works of genius (although I can't say that I am a great lover), but we know very little more than this about the man himself. Many of the other paragons of English Culture may have been born in England but are of continental extraction and will have obvioulsy been influenced by their original heritage; indeed at least one mentioned, Francis Bacon, was not even English, he was actually Irish!

When losing the argument he then decides to attack my cultural heritage; and even loses out there because he cannot be bothered to read anything which does not tie into his tiny minded idea. He attacks such things as the Padstow Obby Oss mayday celebrations as being derivative, when in fact this even goes so far back into the dim and distant Celtic past that all of the events he says it is derived from can only have come later. I say again I am Cornish and proud to be so! My Celtic roots mean a lot to me, and it is odd to think that whilst the English tribes were painting themselves with woad and hitting each other with big sticks the Cornish were trading tin with the Phonecians.

He wondered how long it would take me to get back to the "English aggressors" argument; well all I can say is go and read some history books, and learn how other cultures down the centuries have been dominated by the English, most of the continent of Africa to start with, Cecil Rhodes and all that!

He now says that he won't be visiting again, I can't say that I will miss him, because like most of his nationalist friends he has no conception of what a reasoned argument is, his idea of an argument is "you have to agree with me, I'm right and you're wrong"; well I am afraid I will not agree with someone just because they say I have to. I do not go out of my way to "pick" an argument, but if someone wants to disagree with me that is fine as long as they understand the rules; "I'm right and you're wrong" isn't an argument, it is bullying and will get deleted; any form of insulting, abusive, racist, sexist, or any other kind of -ist comment will be deleted...

Cornish Culture

An English Nationalist who cannot, or will not, (and I suspect it is the latter because he realises that he has painted himself into a corner) understand the difference between "culture" and "cultural heritage/identity" told me today that in discussions with people that they could not define Cornish Culture; I suspect that he bored them just as much as he is boring me with harping on that I have said that the English have no culture, when what I actually said was that the English lack a distinct cultural heritage/identity. The said people, I suspect, simply quickly got rid of him by failing in the task, which is very simple if this person only did what I have just done; ten minutes with Google produced quite a bit of Cornish culture which I present here, with the caveat that this is "Cornish Culture" not "Cornish Cultural heritage/identity" which is something quite different.

First off a traditional Cornish song about the English:-

That was not that difficult and it is something this person could have done for himself, had he not been so intent on attacking me for his lack of ability to read my words in the context in which they were written. But then what should I expect from these people, it is their stock in trade to take bits and pieces out of context and twist them to their own ends; not only that but to then put words into the mouth of the person who wrote them. As I say, about par for the course; they would do better to stop whingeing about inconsequential odds and sods and concentrate on what they claim to be their main purpose in life, getting an English Parliament; personally I think if that happens in the way in which they expect it to all the sinners in Hell will be enjoying a good old fashioned snowball fight!

Cultural Differences of Opinion

I have been attacked for my remark in this post about "having a cultural heritage and identity which it appears to me that the English don't have" (see comments thread).The person making the comment seems to think that culture and a cultural heritage and identity are the same thing, they are not. Most of the culture that he lists from Cahucer to Hockney etc. is derivative drawing on many other cultures; for example The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin; rock music is derivative of jazz and the blues; Christopher Marlowe's Dr Faustus is derivative of Gothe. I could go on picking holes but simply do not have the time; I will come back to this point with a much more detailed post at some point.

The main point I would like to make here is that I wish these people would read what I write before commenting; and if they are going to quote me then please do so in context.

Just one more thing, I have put up with comments that have had insults in them over the last couple of days, but that stops here; from today any comment with even a mild insult will be deleted, so don't scream censorship - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The English nationalist make a whole series of demands, but one suspects that these demands are simply not thought through; they are more in the nature of a petulant "they have, we want" argument, see here. I copy it below also:-

We demand action on the following matters

England to be recognised and treated as a unified country. Scotland and Wales have been recognised as countries and their people given the opportunity to vote in referenda for devolved government. Scotland now has a parliament, and Wales an assembly. In contrast, the people of England have been denied the opportunity to choose an English Parliament. Instead, England is being dismembered into nine regions. We find this discrimination unacceptable. England should be a political entity with its own parliament and executive.
The immediate abandonment of the Barnett formula. The formula institutionalises discrimination against the people of England by ensuring that public spending in Scotland and Wales is far higher per head of population than in England. The Barnett formula diverts about £8 billion of extra public expenditure to Scotland each year. This means that the entire population of Scotland enjoys a subsidy averaging £30 per person per week. This has meant, for example, smaller class sizes in Scotland, higher pay for teachers, shorter hospital waiting lists, and the availability of prescription drugs and surgical procedures which are unavailable in England on grounds of cost. This unjustified discrimination must end. A new fairer system is needed which enables England's share of the £8 billion to be used to improve public services in England.

I will not deal with the first bit of their argument here I will return to that at a later date as it is the second part that I find quite laughable in that it is complete nonsense. No one doubts that the whole "fiscal autonomy" question needs addressing, BondWoman over at BondBloke puts it much better that I can:

The UK needs urgently to look at fiscal autonomy to go with the devolution of powers. This is not because this will give the English things the Scottish have, such as lower university tuition fees, which they think they are being denied because of budgetary constraints. The differences lie in political choices, not budgetary possibilities. England, for better or for worse, is making different political choices to Scotland. That is very clear in the health services and schools arenas. Even leaving aside the West Lothian question, those political choices would be more legitimate and probably better thought through if they were tied to a system of fiscal autonomy, combined with an appropriate system of fiscal transfers which all federal systems must have in order to maintain solidarity within the union. Fiscal autonomy will not necessarily lead to the break up of the UK. I hope it does not. Refusing to contemplate such autonomy may on the contrary, though, foster the types of political movements which will ultimately do much greater damage to the union.

Their main bone of contention seems to be that "the entire population of Scotland enjoys a subsidy averaging £30 per person per week"; when will they get it into their heads that this is not a subsidy! (I would agrue that Scotland actually subsidizes England with the oil revenues) In fact, even if public spending per head of population in Scotland is higher than that in England, the gap is actually narrowing. But, leaving that aside, these people are complaing that Scotland (a part of the UK which incidentally is poorer on average) is bleeding England (a part of the UK which incidentally is richer on average) dry! This is just so much bollocks! What these people cannot understand is that the benefits that Scotland has, and which they are crying foul about, i.e. "smaller class sizes in Scotland, higher pay for teachers, shorter hospital waiting lists, and the availability of prescription drugs and surgical procedures which are unavailable in England on grounds of cost", are nothing to do with such things as the Barnett formula they are purely and simply differences of political choices between England and Scotland. So, maybe it is time they stopped whingeing, thought their arguments through carefully, stopped scaremongering with facts that in truth are completely false, and started to do something constructive to aid the changes that they seek; because as sure as a snowball in hell will remain intact their demands, as they are at present, will simply be ignored!

It should be noted that this carefully worded reply on Cameron's behalf says: ". . he is English. However, he likes to think of himself as British.

This actually means "his place of birth is England, but he does not regard himself as English", and he does not want to admit this! One could go further, and conclude that the phrase "he likes to think of himself as British" carries the implication that, "consequently, he does not like to think of himself as English"!

Personally I have never considered myself to be anything other than Cornish; and that has nothing to do with any anti-English sentiments, it has more to do with having a cultural heritage and identity which it appears to me that the English don't have and wish that they (at least the nationalists) did. It strikes me that the English nationalists are extremely jealous of those of us who have a cultural identity and that the only way they can deal with this jealousy is by promoting their warped message that the English are a "violently suppressed minority", or that "English people are dying because of Scottish bigotry", all of which is just so much bollocks. I know that this will not be popular with them because I completely disagree with not only all that they stand for, but also the way in which they promote their message using those well worn tools, hypocrisy, bigotry and latent racism; and anyone who has the temerity to disagree with them is subjected to insults and abuse, and if their comments are deleted due to the abusive nature of them then I will again be accused of censorship!

Flawed English Arguments

Another confused rant, this time by toque who is also promoting yet another nationalist website Justice For England which spouts the same old rubbish as all of the others in this vein! What these people do not seem to realise is that their arguments are flawed by the absence of fact; they take what they perceive as injustice and present it as fact using phrases like "English people are dying because of Scottish bigotry". I simply find the hypocrisy, bigotry and latent racism of these people completely laughable, and in many ways quite, quite pathetic!

I'm dismayed to report that yet another English website has appeared, agitating for more rights for the English, and 'equality' with the other nations of the UK. When are these English peasants going to accept their second-class status; and when are our Scottish masters going to clamp down on this barely concealed English nationalism? This rampant internet activism cannnot be allowed to continue; sow seeds of discontent amongst the English and before long they will be petitioning for divorce. That's what Labour achieved in Scotland by telling the Scots that they were oppressed, unrepresented by Thatcher's government, unloved, put upon... And it worked, the very threat of divorce won Scotland monies and privileges over and above the other nations of the UK - spoilt bitch of her Westminster sugar-daddy.

If you are reading this,I would point out that there are many individuals here. I doubt this will register but we dont all hold the same views.

I would not say that I like it here but it does give me good material to prove my point that the majority of those who post here are bigoted, hypocritical and latently racist. Yes I did read this and I would hope that there are "many individuals here" and that this was not the work of one individual. Numptie isn't Scottish - he just lives up in Leith enjoying the benefits of devolution but doesn't want England to enjoy the same constitutional privilege or funding largesse. A case of what we have we hold.

If you saw the development taking place in Leith you would probably understand. Since devolution it (and Edinburgh) has been transformed with new buildings and infrastructure. I expect he has a smelly little bedsit by the docks and he has seen its market value sky-rocket thanks to devolution.

Pop down to Nobles this Sunday and you'll see Numptie there with the other plastic Jocks listening to jazz and drinking a pint 'o heavy wishing they were Scottish and could understand that chat of the locals. The real Scots despise his sort.

No, Numptie is not Scottish he is Cornish and proud of it. This all smacks of so much jealousy; I did not move to Leith, one of the more interesting parts of Edinburgh, to enjoy "the benefits of devolution" I moved here with my partner who got a job up here, and as what I do can be undertaken anywhere it made sense to work in a more pleasant environment. As to the "funding largesse" remark I see nothing of the sort, in fact I see it the other way round; Scotland funding England with the oil revenues which are far greater than anything that comes north from England...

Now we get to what I would expect from this member, insults and abuse! Yes Leith has been developed in recent years, but still retains its character. No I do not live in "a smelly little bedsit by the docks" (as I said he can't resist the abuse) I live in a rather nice three bedroomed apartment in a lovely complex with great views of both the coast and of Edinburgh itself; as I said the green eyed monster rears its ugly head!

And no, you won't find this man down at Nobles on a Sunday night with the other "plastic jocks" (that latent racism again), I would go anywhere near the place for fear of meeting too many people like the author of this rubbish! This person is mainly to be found in the supermarket, but can equally be found wherever there is a queue. The queue jumper is invariably an elderly lady belonging to the tweeds, twin-set and pearls, jolly hockey-sticks brigade who thinks that age brings certain privileges with it. Although, to be fair, I have come across young - male and female - queue jumpers, but in far lesser numbers than the former species. Most of these elderly ladies, despite being obviously well educated, become quite rude in the scrabble to get to the head of the queue, I sometimes wonder if even a bare-knuckle boxer would stand a chance against them, as they are a ferocious breed.

Most people are under the misapprehension that the average supermarket trolley has a mind of its own; this is not true. The average supermarket trolley which gives one such a clout on the ankle is being driven by one of these demons - showing the same skills as the impatient driver - in search of the latest bargain, and hell bent on getting out of the supermarket before anyone else. This breed does not care if it leaves one lying in a pool of blood just as long as it gets to the head of the queue. The most annoying thing about this person is that once they get to the head of the queue they suddenly lose all of the sense of urgency which was previously being displayed. These tyrants keep one waiting whilst fumbling about, in capacious purses, looking for odd bits of loose change to pay for their purchase; and then, having paid for their purchase, proceed to pull out a wad of money off coupons about which they are not sure if they are still valid.

I picked this out of a debate at the CoSG Forum about English names for children; and it just goes to show that even in an innocuous discussion some of these "nice" people cannot resist taking a side swipe at all and sundry. Here again, although it is not explicitly said, we are back to the old "violently suppressed minority" mentality.

The Scots apparently "re-write history to present themselves as poor duped victims of English oppression", make me laugh why don't you! I would just point this person in the direction of a previous post where I discussed the whole "violently suppressed minority" thing, and dont see the point in repeating it here.

"English people are dying because of Scottish bigotry"; I have no idea what this is all about and find it quite laughable, especially in an historical perspective where so many Scottish people died because of English bigotry!

"if the Scots were actually (and not only in their tiny minds) prejudicially treated, as we English are now, then you would have rebelled long ago"; so what was Culloden all about then, just a little friendly disagreement with the Duke of Cumberland?

"Put your money where your mouths are and we will all be happy"; give the Scots back the money stolen in the form of oil revenue and I suspect that they will be very happy.

"the national press in England"; by this I am assuming that the author is talking about those xenophobic organs of the gutter, like The Scum, The Express and The Daily Mail who employ those scaremongering louts who masquerade as journalists.

Isn't it the very fact that the word English is being used is an attempt to create an 'identity'?

It would have been very easy to go through this word by word and make a full critical analysis of it, but, and I am being quite frank here, I couldn't be arsed because it is just so pathetic and hypocritical as to beggar belief!

Hatred of the Scots is not what goes on here. What goes on is pointing out how Scots call the kettle black. Also how they re-write history to present themselves as poor duped victims of English oppression. Most of us thought the Scots were above all that, but you have certainly got whatever revenge you thought was necessary. Unfortunately you have exposed yourselves for what you actually are.

When Scots habitually have a go at the English, the once friendly banter in rivalry has diminished beyond recall. English people are dying because of Scottish bigotry.

As I've said before if the Scots were actually (and not only in their tiny minds) prejudicially treated, as we English are now, then you would have rebelled long ago. The Irish did. You know the Scots have had the best deal out of the Union than any of the other constituent nations. This is why you talk big about independence but fail to deliver what your big mouths howl. Put your money where your mouths are and we will all be happy.

You may not get the chance though, judging by the massive mood-swing in the national press in England. It takes journalists a little while for the penny to drop.

Regarding your apology, I accept it, but it is really for Ingy to say.

Insults are easy on these boards and I was once guilty of a massive insult towards Scots on a Scots' talkboard. I apologised, but typically the Scots would never let it drop.

I hope we English do a little better than your compatriots when it comes to humility.

I mean is it so surprising that the vast majority of the DVLA employies are Welsh; duh, the DVLA is based in Swansea, and unless it has recently relocated I am pretty sure that Swansea is in Wales, although I may have to go and check that in my atlas... I mean was it necessary to ask such a "stupid" question, when just sitting down and applying a little brain time to the matter would have come up with the answer that the majority of the DVLA employies are bound to be Welsh. Boy, 15, charged over pregnant 11-year-old. I don't actually have a lot to say about this. This case has apparently "sparked concern about the state of sex education in Scotland and the pressure young people face in a highly sexualised society"; but is that the real problem here? This girl got pregnant after "losing her virginity at 11 to a boy during a drunken night out in Edinburgh"; as far as I am concerned this raises questions about parental responsibility! Here is a girl of eleven whose is allowed access to alcohol (whether or not the parents were aware of it), but apparently "smokes 20 roll-up cigarettes a day" (and you can't tell me that the parents are unaware of that). I am not advocating wrapping children in cotton wool, that would be even worse that letting them have a degree of freedom; however giving children the sort of freedom that this 11 year old has obviously had is nothing short of irresponsible.

February 2006 is "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month!

February is celebrating everything to do with Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender and shoving it down our children's' throats.

Teachers will be asking all children 7+ other names used for Gays. If the children are not forthcoming then they must start the conversation. Then they want the children to come out with famous Gay people in history! Why?

Ruth Kelly MP is promising £20,000 towards this history month and Metropolitan Police Chief Sir Ian Blair is promising a reception to the cost of £3,120 towards celebrating this atrocity.

I have not researched this one yet. Woder if anyone else has heard of it.

The English a Violently Suppressed Minority?

Those who support the Campaign for an English Parliament are always complaining that they are a “violently suppressed minority” (see here); well I would like to make a few points here to educate them as to what a “violently suppressed minority” really is.

So where shall we start, I know let’s start with the persecution of the Jews by the English, I know it was in medieval times but it happened, and at that time the Jews were a “minority” who were violently suppressed! For further facts see here:-

Expulsion
However, the days of the Jews in England were numbered. In 1275, Edward 1 (1272 - 1307) issued the Statute of Jewry. Jews were prohibited from charging interest on loans and had to collect all existing debts by the following Easter or forfeit them. In order to survive economically Jews were to be encouraged to become labourers and therefore granted licence to lease land for 15 years (until 1290). The Statute also stipulated all Jews from the age of seven had to wear a yellow felt badge 6” long and 3” wide. A poll tax of 3d a year was also imposed from the age of twelve. Finally, Jews were given notice to quit England forever on 18 July 1290. It is estimated about 16,000 Jews left the country and it was not the late 17th century that Jews openly dared to return.

Next it was the turn of the Catholics whose only real offence was to have a different viewpoint of Christianity; although what so many of the English failed to realise is that the Protestant Church is no more or less than a reformed Catholic Church. For further facts see here:-

Elizabeth I, coming to the throne in November 1558, was queen of a country at risk of division on religious lines between Protestant and Catholic. In 1559, an Act of Uniformity imposed fines on all men who refused to attend Church of England services at their parish church; in 1563, the death penalty was imposed on priests who said mass. Later laws imposed numerous penalties and fines for non-attendance at Anglican services, and Catholics were effectively barred from inheriting land, entering the professions or taking up civil or military office: because they could not accept the monarch as Head of the Church, they could not be loyal subjects. In the eighteenth century, active discrimination was largely allowed to lapse, although formal Catholic emancipation was not to come until 1829.

Then there were the Scots, could the English never leave anyone in peace? The worst offender here was the Duke of Cumberland, son of George II who must have had a real down on the Scots:-

George II gave the Duke of Cumberland instructions that the Scots had to be punished for supporting Charles. Many of those who had joined his army were executed and their land was given to those who had remained loyal to the king.

In 1746, the Episcopal chapels at Muchalls and Portlethan were destroyed on the orders of the Duke of Cumberland.

And what about the Irish, the English persecuted them as well, seems to me that no one was sacred as far as the English were concerned; a little local difficulty with the Irish, ah, well, we’ll send in the Black and Tans:-

The attitude of the Black and Tans is best summed up by one of their divisional commanders:

"If a police barracks is burned or if the barracks already occupied is not suitable, then the best house in the locality is to be commandeered, the occupants thrown into the gutter. Let them die there – the more the merrier.
Should the order ("Hands Up") not be immediately obeyed, shoot and shoot with effect. If the persons approaching (a patrol) carry their hands in their pockets, or are in any way suspicious-looking, shoot them down. You may make mistakes occasionally and innocent persons may be shot, but that cannot be helped, and you are bound to get the right parties some time. The more you shoot, the better I will like you, and I assure you no policeman will get into trouble for shooting any man."

So, those “nice” people at the CoSG see themselves as a “violently suppressed minority”, they can’t even begin to know what it is to be a “violently suppressed minority”; I have only scratched the surface of history here and even now it seems that it has always been the English (who by the way are not a minority as they make up over 80% of the population of mainland Britain) who have been doing the violent suppressing. So my message to those “nice” CoSG people is, go away and read some history before talking about suppression, and the maybe we can have a sensible discussion about the issue.

Yet another rant from those 'nice' CoSG people, I think it all rather patheic really, they hate everybody who they see as doing them an injustice, but the only thing they seem able to do is rant, rave and make demands that all reasonable thinking people can see are completely beyond reason. My advice, as it has been before, shot whingeing and get out there and do something that is achievable for a change. Stop complaining that Scotland has all of the things that you would like to have, and do something about it! Stop whining that you are a "violently suppressed minority" because you are NOT; in fact if you want to talk about a "violently suppressed minority"then maybe you should go away and read some Scottish history with particular regard to the Highland Clearances, Culloden, and many more such instances, then come back here and we can discuss violently suppressed minorities!

I'm right there with ya Richard, this is how it gets ya dont it, there are many of us who are fed up to the point of frustration and anger now, and yes there are many also who are prepaired to let this country go down the drain and they seem prepaired to let themselves be shat on completley?? they have this attitude that they can not do anything about things and so just go along with it all etc ????
Is all we can do is to gather as many of the frustrated patriotic troops together on places like this, and to also let the down hearted know that you can stand up and say something and to encourage any one with that negative attitude to turn it into positive attitude before they let their country down, as they don't seem to know they are actualy joining in on letting their country down do they??? We must spread the word of this site and the EDP and then go forward together and make that stand and make that difference.

e.g When some one complains about the waiting times for NHS just say Scotland gets more money, paid by us.

Some of the comments can be found below, those have copied are completely out of context as they do not include the original comment or subsequent comments by the initial commenter; if you want the context you need to read the whole thing. I chose the comments here purely for the fact that it fascinates me just how easily some of the "Little Englanders" out there make complete asses of themselves; not only that but also show themselves to be racist, bigoted, abusive and, at times, downright insulting.

There is growing resentment in England at the extent to which we are now ruled by an unaccountable 'Scottish Mafia' - unaccountable that is to the people that their departments are there to serve. There are multiple examples of Ministers with responsibilities that do not affect the people who elected them; and of Scottish MP's voting on matters that do not apply to their own electorates (nice position to be in eh?).

And now even English Home affairs have been handed to a Scot 'Dr' John Reid.

The Scots certainly wouldn't stand for it and I sense that it won't be long before the English won't either.

The economic incompetence of Labour both at Westminster and Holyrood will prove its undoing; the libdems can't escape the blame in Scotland, and the SNP and leftist parties have no alternative to Labour idiocy. That doesn't leave much option for any intelligent Scot; watch for an upswing in Tory votes next year. (Of course that does mean that readers of the Daily record will continue to vote Labour and SNP, but there you go.)

London/gbr I don't see how Scotland is going to be self-reliant based on ?1-2 billion of "regained" oil-subsidy when it's a declining resource. Of course relying on the Norwegians to form a "North Sea alliance" is all well and good but ignores the point that Norway and its population may have its own ideas, which the Scots have absolutely no control or influence over. Friday afternoon thinking by my reckoning.

Good points by Tamerlane, though I agree any politico won't bite the hand that feeds them. Plus, why attempt to rule 5 million when you can try to "be at the heart of Europe" with 60 million? Where's the kudos?

What Scottish Oil - It's BRITISH oil and there ain't much of it left anyway.

Production peaked a few years ago. It is now declining at @8% per annum and set to accelerate since Gordon Broon's far-sighted knee-jerk decision to increase his tax take on it still further.

AfricaExplorer (lives in London I see) Whines about alleged past wrongs but it's he that has a short memory. Since when was there EVER a situation where English MP's voted on Scottish only matters that were not going to affect their own constituents aswell? Fact is Scottish-only legislation (with the arguable exception of the 'poll-tax' where it was a matter of phased introduction and which didn't last long either) was always decided by the the Grand Committee. There has never before been a situation where ministers and MP's are responsible for and vote on matters which do not affect there own constituents - and this is supposed to be a democracy??

On the subject of Faslane, Rosyth, Lossiemouth and other MOD installations, if AE is so unhappy about them I suggest he seek election on a platform advocating their closure. He'll soon see how popular that little red-herring is.

Fact is, If AE's arguments had any merit at all - which they clearly do not - he is simply arguing that two wrongs make a right. - ie you screwed us so now we're going to screw you. He reckons he's fed up. Well I've got news for him - He's not half so fed up as the English are becoming with the Scots whining whilst they dictate English only politics and milk the English tax-payer to boot. He can have his independence as far as I am concerned a good riddance to him - maybe he'll move back to Glasgow or wherever. As the old saying goes: A well balanced Scotsman? - one with a chip on both shoulders.

As a percentage of the UK as a whole:
Scotland population: 8.47%
Scottish MP's 9.13% (until May 2005 it was 10.9%)

England population 83.75%
English MP's 81.89%

So even after the 2005 cull of Scottish seats the English are still under-represented at Westminster.

Also, you talk glibly about Scottish only legislation. Name me a single act applying to Scotland only (and with the exception of the poll tax which was UK wide but phased first in Scotland) which was not agreed by the Scottish Grand Committee first and subsequently by a majority of Scottish MP's.

And even if you can dig one up, two 'wrongs' don't make a right. The present arrangement of Scots MP's voting on English-only matters and unable to vote on those same matters in Scotland (being devolved to Holyrood) is not only absurd; it's a gross affront - and particularly so when, in addition to having its own parliament, it (Scotland) is over-represented in the Westminster one.

Oil again. Yes it IS British oil. Precise boundaries and hence ownership could change with Scottish independance but don't count on it. And yes, there are such people as ENGLISH taxpayers, just as there are Scottish ones. Problem is that it is the English Taxpayer that subsidises Scotland to the tune of 20% more public expenditure per head than in England.

And don't talk to me about being secure in a Scottish national identity either. The typical central belt urban Scot has about as much in common with his rural highland 'countryman' as the Islingtonian NU-LAB world improver has with the rural yeomen of England.

Still - no need to argue. We agree on the substantive issue; you because of preceived historical injustice; me because of the current grossly unfair constitutional settlement which England as a whole is slowly waking up to. Scotland should leave the UK. So let's bury our differences eh? and work towards that goal. We can fight about divvying up the spoils later.

All the legislation you cite falls under the heading of UK wide matters. Separate bills were required in deferrence to Scotland maintaining a separate legal and judicial system, that's all. They were needed to give legal force in Scotland to what was also being foisted (or whatever other term you choose to use) on the rest on the YOOKAY - there being an Act of Union in force to which Scotland subscribed.

Until so called devolution, there was never the possibility of English MP's voting on Scottish only matters, except where, as noted, it was a matter of enabling rather than principle or substance and in such cases the substance was often watered down in deferrence to Scottish sensibilities anyway. And even if this were not the case, the fact remains that you would thus be arguing in support of a current and ongoing injustice on the sole basis of its being similar to alleged past injustices but with the boot on the other foot - hardly an honest position.

The present situation allows Scottish MP's, for example, to vote on a Hunting ban in England where the matter had already been decided for their own constituents - and almost to a man they did. Likewise they felt free to require English students to pay University top-up fees when their own constituents were already exempt and deny free nursing care to the English (but not Scots) elderly, knowing there was no possibility of them being called to account for their actions at the ballot box. The biggest affront is that the present Labour party would simply be unable to command a majority for much of its manifesto at Westminster without the votes of Scottish MP's who cannot be held to account for it by their own constituents because such matters are devolved.

Your attempt at ridicule of the population/representation statistics falls pretty flat. The fact is that Scotland has its own parliament, deciding the vast bulk of domestic policy and yet is STILL over-represented at Westminster enabling it to arbitrate England-only policy in a wholly disproportionate manner.

Still, as I said before, for our separate reasons, we want the same thing so let's go for it. Since our time might better be spent persuading our own countrymen to ditch the Union I don't intend to add to what I've already posted here.

I know that the focus of attention right at the moment is on the completely inept cabinet reshuffle. But there is something that I think is much more pertinent to democracy lurking in the background; and that is the discussions being undertaken this weekend between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown about the direction of the Labour Party. As things stand it seems that Tony Blair will, at some point, hand over the reigns to Gordon Brown; now here is where I have very definite problems, as I was always under the impression that the Labour Party was a democratic party and that if the leader stepped aside there had to be an election to select a new leader. However, this all seems to be being done on the old “nod and a wink” basis, and smacks very much of dictatorship; the old “I’ve finished, it’s your turn now” syndrome. Simply to say that Brown will be the next leader is not enough, he has to put himself forward to be challenged, and if he does not then that will just be a further indication of just how morally bankrupt these people have become. But perhaps he does not want to face the ordeal of an election because he knows that to do so will mean that he might lose, and oh what a catastrophe that would be for the nation.

I thought one rant for the day would be enough, but I can't resist those "nice people" at the CoSG Forum, every chance they get they have to have a go at someone: "Another non-English jobsworth implying that English people are not inclusive."; well I hate to say it, but the sort of people who populate forums like this one are not inclusive, as the rest of this rant shows quite clearly:-

On Mayo on 5 Live just now a woman with an Irish Accent was talking about another quango to be set up called Natural England.
HQ will be in Sheffield when the quango starts up in October. One of its main jobs will be to make the English countryside more open to ehtnic minorities.
Another non-English jobsworth implying that English people are not inclusive. It wasn't long before 'regional' was brought into the discussion.
I wonder if Natural London will be set up to make English people feel more inclusive in their own capital city? It would be nice to walk around all of London without being threatened with violence for being English, not necessarily by racial groups who aren't 'hideously white', but mainly by white eastern European drug pushers and pimps.

I am sorry to say that the only people I have seen "being threatened with violence for being English" are those who are a) making racist remarks; b) showing themselves to be bigots; or c) being rabidly xenophobic... Read the Bible: "As ye sow so shall ye reap".

This is just one of the many "violently suppressed minority" type rants. Personally I don't see how a group like the English who make up 86% of the population of mainland Great Britain can have the audacity to call themselves a "violently suppressed minority", go away and think about Culloden and all that; and all of the previous, and subsequent, suppression of the Scots by the English, then come back and discuss violently suppressed minorities!

It seems that we don't trust the media, one has to ask is it any wonder? Indeed, is it any wonder that we don't trust the press when what we have such a rabidly xenophobic tabloid press in Britain; a tabloid press calling for evermore draconian measures against criminals, asylum seekers etc. etc. When we have a right wing tabloid press residing in the gutter, and pandering to the extremist views of neo-facists and the like; whipping up anti-muslim fervour at the drop of a hat. Their problem is that they only ever portray one side of a story, and even then they don't care if the facts are in the least bit accurate, just as long as it sells papers. This latest fiasco, prisoners let out who should have been deported, is just the last in a long line of cases where thew tabloid press has jumped on the racist bandwagon, screaming for tougher laws etc. etc.; then they are the first to start shouting when these "tougher laws" begin to impinge on their pathetic lives.

Indeed is it any wonder that we don't trust the press, when it is being pandered to by a morally bankrupt government that is hell bent on seeking the next "good" headline specifically designed to get them out of whichever hole they have dug themselves into; "what's a little scaremongering compared to getting people to like us?" Let me state right from the start that I never was enamoured of Tony Blair, and thought that he was dangerous from the moment he became leader of the Labour Party. That distrust has been proved to be warranted on very many occasions over recent years, and none more so than now. I am not going to get into all of the political arguments that are flying around at present; I am just going to state it as I see it. What we have at present is a morally bankrupt government existing by virtue of a series of knee jerk reactions to circumstances over which they have lost control, and which they want to be seen to be doing something about (see here for example). Unfortunately these knee jerk reactions always have the effect that more and more of our civil liberties seem to be put under increasing pressure; not to mention the victims who have to suffer the more outrageous of these hastily prepared, ill thought out reactions of government! But recently it seems to have gone far beyond the knee jerk reaction; with all of the Charles Clarke stuff that is happening at present this morally bankrupt government is doing its best to seek the headline that will bring most votes in the Local Government elections, hence what we now have in this country is government by tabloid press. Ever since this bunch came to power in 1997 I have thought them to be a scary bunch, and I am a committed socialist, but never more scary than right now when they seem to be pandering to every right wing, racist, xenophobic bunch of loonies out there in big bad Britain!

I am quite surprised to find myself agreeing with someting on the CoSG forum but on checking it out here I have to say that I have a great deal of sympathy for PC Bell. The question has to be asked, what the hell were the RSPCA doing spending an estimated £50,000 on a prosecution that was always going to fail? I think that this is a gross misuse of their funds, especially as the majority of their money comes from charitable dontations, i.e. the general public; they should be held accountable for this decision.

I am not taking an anti-RSPCA stance here, they do a wonderful job; I am also not advocating cruelty to animals, but there are times when it is kinder to kill an injured animal than it is to let it suffer. PC Bell was put in just this position, faced with an injured cat he made the same decision that I would have done and killed it to put it out of its misery; maybe the way in which he did it left something to be desired, but he made a judgement and carried it through, and I applaud him for it.

They cannot even resist the anti-Scottish jibes even when it come to good old alcohol. I picked out the topic and a couple of random replies:-

Old Peculiar is the answer to a perfectly reasonable question.

I like the Golden Ales like Badger Golden Champion, Waggle Dance, Honeydew Goldings Summer Ale.
Badger Golden Champion is my favourite.
Any beer with a Scottish saltire on the bottle tastes like piss and I recommend avoiding it.

Here is someone who can't resist an anti-Scottish jibe, but who also has no idea about beer, I would actually say that piss, although unlike the author of this I have never tried it, tastes better than at least two of the beers mentioned above. I was told on moving to Edinburgh that I wouldn't be able to get a decent pint north of the border; let me tell you that is a complete fallacy, as is the rubbish this person is spouting! In slightly less than a year I have found at least a dozen extremely good beers up here and not one of them from south of the border, Red McGregor, Dark Island and SkullSplitter are three from Orkney; Old Engine Oil and Bitter and Twisted from the Harviestoun Brewery near Falkirk, to name but five off of the top of my head, and there are similar small breweries all over Scotland turning out some very superior beers that equal if not surpass most English beers. Don't get me wrong I am not slagging off English beers, there are some excellent beers south of the border, Old Peculiar, Old Speckled Hen and Black Sheep to name but three, and there are plenty of crap Scottish beers; my point is that to say "Any beer with a Scottish saltire on the bottle tastes like piss and I recommend avoiding it." is simply a completely assinine remark, and shows that the person has no idea of what good beer is...

I've got a bit of a thing for Duchy Originals ale at the moment. As for Mead, Lurgashall Wineries make a great English Mead which is definately recommended. My booze is always English...but if i want Whisky then it's gotta be Irish. Are there any English Whiskies?

Again someone who can't resist an anti-Scottish jibe, preferring to drink Irish whisky, and looking for English whiskies. Here again the author is showing a distinct ignorance of the subject; this is someone who is probably used to blends (something that stopped me drinking whisky at a very early age). Scotland has so may distilleries, producing single malts of all ages to suit just about every pallatte from "in your face" peaty whiskies like Laphroig and Ardbeg from Islay, to much sweeter less peaty whiskies from Speyside. My discovery of the range of single malts available has very much brought me back to whisky; these are true whiskies and are nothing like the lousy blends so popular with so many people. Also what he probably dosen't realize is that the malting will be done in Scotland at one of the very few malting houses in the UK; very few of the distilleries still malt their own barley these days, it comes direct from a malting house ready peated for use. This is purely and simply racist buying which highlights the ignorance of the person concerned; he claims that "My booze is always English", I would lay odds that his wine is predominantly from France, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, California, Germany; oh, shit, I am bored the list is too long! All I can say is that here is one sad person who failed to engage brain before opening mouth.

A Strange Saturday

Yesterday was a strange sort of day in many ways. By the end of the day, I had managed to resolve an ongoing long term problem. About a year ago I was commissioned to do a series of paintings for a person who was/is developing a property, and who wanted some art work to decorate the show house/flat. I duly did the paintings and they were taken away sometime towards the end of August last year, on the premise that they had to be approved by other people before payment would be made. I know, without being told, that I was pretty stupid to hand over the goods without payment, but it was done and there it was! Needless to say payment was not forthcoming, despite the fact that I had been informed that the paintings had been given approval; there were of course many, many promises that the money would be forthcoming “next week” (the equivalent of the old adage “the cheque is in the post”), however, it never seemed to materialise.

I got to the stage where I was prepared to write it all off to experience; but then I got angry about the whole affair and was determined that the “asshole” was not going to get away with it. By this time events had moved on and this thieving git was no longer to be found at his address has it had been repossessed. So yesterday morning after a Tesco trip we headed north out of Edinburgh to try and locate either the “asshole” or one of his minions to recover the paintings; but on arrival at the site there was no one to be found. So we decide not to let the day be a complete waste of time and as our walking boots are always in the car we decided to take a walk from the Den of Alyth. The walk was brilliant, but more about that can be found here, and gave us some much needed exercise; we walked about seven miles in just over two and a half hours.

On returning to the start of the walk we decided to return to the development site before returning home on the off chance as the git is known to sometimes spend the night there, and we thought that given his lack of an address we thought that this might be distinctly possible. This time we were lucky to find him there, or at least is car was outside, but on knocking there was no answer. That is, until I hammered the door so hard the whole building shook. To say he was surprised to see us would be an understatement. To cut a long story short, I came away with the paintings on the back seat of the car; so all in all it was a pretty successful day on both counts of getting the paintings back, and getting some much needed exercise, but as I said at the beginning, a pretty strange sort of day.

Well folks, I am claiming back my right to wind up the loonies. I have just had the biggest laugh of my life! I found the website an Anthem4England; now this is another of your typical English Nationalist sites with all of the usual stuff, except that it has a poll where one can vote for a new English anthem, and this is what gave that laugh that I mentioned; one of the options is "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". Now I am not sure if the people who set this up are aware of exactly where this song comes from, but I have been aware since my Grandmother told me at a very early age that it is in fact a Negro Spiritual (yes I know that "Negro" is not politically correct, but then that is the sort of person that I am; take it or leave it) which I would have thought runs against the whole ethos of English Nationalism!

Edinburgh pensioner rapes an 11 year-old and only gets five years. Apparently the abuse began when the girl was seven, and he first raped her when she was eleven; what justice system in its right mind could only give such an evil bastard five years for the many years of torment that he has visited on this, now, young woman. The experience has blighted her life to the point where she has already tried to commit suicide:

"She has to take insulin on prescription, and recently, after describing the abuse that she suffered at your hands, she overdosed on her insulin, apparently as a result of not wishing to be alive."

The experience has not only blighted her life but will continue to do so for the rest of her life! Now there is justice for you; he gets five years, and she gets a lifetime of misery... Is it any wonder that young girls and women are reluctant to report incidences of rape? They not only have to endure the physical abuse of the rape itself, but then they have to endure the mental torment of reliving the whole expereience throughout the investigation and subsequent trial, that is if it gets that far (in some areas the chances of a rape accusation reaching the courtroom is as low as 1%), only to see the perpetrator get a ridiculous sentence like this one!

A Prickly Problem

Personally, I love these little creatures, well most of the time anyway; but anyone who has had these little buggers shagging in their garden will agree that, at a certain time of year, they can simply be a bloody nuisance with all of the noise they make!

Not sure if this has been addressed yet.

You get politicians and activists who dedicate their lives to representing the interests of their own people or group in a particular country such as Galloway represents the Muslims for instance in Parliament,

The Scottish Parliament is elected on proportional representation not first past the post making defensive representation easier.

Is there any reason why someone representing the interests of the English people, a beleaguered and often violently suppressed minority, should not be elected on that ticket.

While the English are afraid to speak out for fear of violence they can quietly put an X in the box of someone who will fight their corner.

Well I know a few English people up here and they don’t feel themselves as a “violently suppressed minority”, in fact they feel quite welcome here, as do I, but then being Cornish I suppose that could be put down to the Celtic brotherhood at work. I don’t actually see how the English can see themselves as a “violently suppressed minority” when in fact they make up the majority of the population!

Well what might spark it off is a thread which exposes anti-Englishness in Scotland where people can write their experiences which we can forward to politicians and the press.

In fact this would be a good thread in Campaigns. We could write to the Scotsman saying it exists and that English people in Scotland should write in.

Again I am not aware of “anti-Englishness” in Scotland, usually any problems that the English encounter up here is of their own making, by bringing their preconceived stereotypes of the Scots as drunken thugs across the border with them…

Funny how we take for granted and tolerate groups such as 'London Irish' or 'London Scottish'. Can you imagine equivalent groups such as 'Edinburgh English or 'Glasgow English' in Scotland? I can't! I simply do not believe that they would be tolerated. Any building accommodating such overtly English groups would have its windows put in and be subject to other kinds of damage.There would be difficulty in arranging insurance cover.

I guess that it's because the English tolerate this refusal of the Scots to integrate and their insistence upon remaining distinct from the English in England that, even though they do not reciprocate in Scotland, they feel free in government to insist that we English also tolerate the differences immigrants bring to England, and their remaining as distinct and unintegrated as Scots!

I reiterate that most of the English in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Scotland generally; they are not tolerated, they are welcomed. Again those who have trouble probably attract it with covertly racist remarks about the Scots. This site is NOT racist. Admittedly, there are some racist types who post on here from time to time, but it's unfair to label all of us in the same way. As for anti-Scottish, most fair minded people here are anti-Scottish politicians rather than anti-Scottish people. Why is it that while there are some Scottish people who abuse others us English people don't accuse the Scottish of being all hooligans and anti English they are not. There is an undercurrent of Scots who are and it is the politicians who are stirring anti English sentiment up for their own ends.

There are however some Scots, among the anti English minority who jump at the chance to accuse English people, all English people of being anti Scottish, these are the ones we need to defend our fellow English men and women across the border from.

At the risk of repeating myself ad infinitum English people in Scotland do not need defending against anti-Englishness, this is a fallacy; those that need defending usually bring it on themselves and should learn to keep their big mouths shut!

I'm English....and so, so very proud of it. I don't need to intimidate or belittle

We would be better with some sort of campaign protecting the English in Ireland and Wales too! It's not just limited to Scotland, or even the British Isles for that matter!

They would be better if they stopped whingeing about being a “violently suppressed minority” and tried sorting the problem they want solving in a rational and achievable manner. Their aims as they are at present are unachievable, however, fighting for more devolved powers to local authorities would be a much more achievable goal. My advice is, stop blaming everyone else and get on and fight your battles with government; dragging all of these internally racist side issues into the argument is going to get you absolutely nowhere, that is except being marginalised as a bunch of loonies who no one listens to!

I embarked upon a new topic of study last night, the Philosphy of Art, apparently the subject last week (which I missed due to a vast amount of confusion about which Tuesday was actually the 18th April) was that awkward old bugger Plato and his complete down on poets; I am sure he and I would have had many a scrap over that. Last night was all about me old mate 'arry Stottle, a much more amenable old geezer indeed, and his thoughts about tragedy, all very interesting indeed.

Coming weeks are going to be devoted to some interesting old coves indeed, people like Hume, Kant, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche to name but a few. The first two are fine, the third I know very little about, but old Nietzsche, well I think he was just argumentative and would disagree with anything even if he knew he was wrong; a bit like me really, so I should be quite at home with him.

Given all of the above it is quite possible that the intellectual content here will soar over the coming weeks...

What they should do is to simply put all those permit requests in the rubbish bin and kick out all illegals from Morocco and Algeria and Ecuador and Colombian mafia drug lords.

I have to admit something: I despise your blog, though you are of course free to write whatever you like (taking advantage of a European tradition known as freedom of speech), something alien to the cultures of Africa that you defend so much. Well, I think it is normal that you defend them…because you yourself, looking at your image, are not exactly "European"…much less of Mediterranean stock, the most beautiful people of Europe. It's amazing how you lie about Greece. I have been to Greece many times and the people are helpful, and, most of all, HONEST…something England and America needs to learn from. Talk about stating the bleeding obvious! It would not take a genius to work out that if John Lennon spoke from the other side that he would be asking for world peace, now would it; after all he spent most of his life promoting the peace message. Some might call me a cynic, even sceptical, but actually I have an open mind about such things; especially when I am told something by someone that I have never met before that they could not possibly have known. It is because something like this happened to me a few years ago that I have an open mind; I am sure that there must be a rational explanation for such occurences but we have just not found it yet. The problem is that the waters are being muddied by the charlatans out there who come up with these frequently occuring stories; like "John Lennon speaks out for Peace from beyond the grave"; most of whom are attention seeking, money grabbing people who are just exploiting the vulnerability of those who are still deeply grieving, even many years after the loss of a loved one etc..

Return to Nature.

I stand alone like Betjeman on the cliff top,
Among his 'flaming gorse and amethystine sea'.
The early morning mist dissipates,
As the sun breaks through across the bay.
The old tin mine, abandoned now,
Marked by the derelict engine house,
Though the wild, thunderous, crashing waves
Reverberate from within the shaft still.

Gannets dive and splash lazily beyond the surf,

Positive Negativity

I just want to redress the balance a little here and say that not all of the CoSG people are tarred with the same brush, even though at times they seem to be. I have had a comments exchange over the last few days with one of the member who is quite reasonable and approaches the whole matter in a quite civilised manner without throwing insults ore being in any way abusive; and I applaud him for that.

In one comment he asked “How about being positive instead of negative?”; well if I could see something to be positive about I would be a little less negative, but these people always come across as having a victim mentality in that they are always crying discrimination. Instead of being the victims and screaming out for an English Parliament they should be in there fighting for more devolved powers for local authorities. They should also perhaps be thinking about what it is to be English and what the English identity is; it is in fact a very complex thing as Englishness can be a very regional issue as well. Finally, rather than trying to highlight all of the differences between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, which sometimes comes across as being internally racist, they should be trying to work out how the same benefits that we in, for instance, Scotland enjoy can be achieved in England.

So, in conclusion, my answer to the question “How about being positive instead of negative?” would be, when I see the English nationalists being far more positive than they seem to be at present, then just maybe I will have some far more positive comments to make.

Well folks I will let you make up your own minds about this (copied [complete with mistakes] below as it will probably be password protected by tomorrow), I just could not resist it; my comment; well what can one say, except why am I not surprised at the reply?

I'm sorry if this matter is not big enough for the cause but I feel that i have to bring this one up, as it in my view will strike a cord with many of the well manered English...

I have come to the boiling point when visiting shops with foreign staff, there are obviously many in Leicester, many are usualy owned by foriegners. My gripe is with the ignorance of the foriegn staff talking in their language between themselves, this is bad manners, dissrespectful and very anoying, the atmos created by this is not inclusive and is very unwelcoming to the English shopper. This as anoyed me and many others for years.
I decided to email Trading Standards to see if there is a code of conduct concerning this. and found that there wasn't, but I was advised that I could make a formal complaint and if then i am still not satisfied then i could also vote with my feet and not use this shop again etc this is all very well and good but where are my local English ran alternative shops then? In the reply from Trading Standards bellow I could understand the infringement on expression bit if I was asking people in England to restrict their English but not the other way around? It looks like I will be writting to some local shops then

The English legal principal "Caveat Emptor" (Let the buyer beware) is still aplicable. If you register your complaint and find that you are still not satisfied with the customer care provided, you may wish to vote with your feet and take your custom elsewhere. This may also provide the owner/manager of the store with an insentive to improve staff training and customer care.

A Cornish Dream

How often I’ve dreamt
Of what Cornwall meant
To me when I was away;
What passed through my mind,
As this land I pined,
While sitting by some foreign bay.

For a start I would yearn
For a cross or a cairn,
For the cliff tops, the coves and the beaches.
For old smugglers haunts,

Nah they did not protest about that because bigley was not a Muslim, he was a kafiah like most of the white trash and filth.
From school age to old age, the Muslims in this country have a majority view of us as the indigenous population (oops abit of a BNP racist type remark there) as below them and not only as we all know have a complete disregard to our culture, which as we know is promoted by the British government and our inactivity, but it is institutionalised in them, look on the net, look on TV and it is always the extremists point of view, the true view of Islam.

Something as trivial as this recent protests by horrid little school children against rice’s visit has confirmed my growing mindset that, we need to get rid full stop, there is no integration there is no tolerance of culture, only on our part and quite frankly we have not got a country of our own. Some English folk are having an identity crisis due to the current governments anti English policies and attitudes of political correctness, but even if this was not the case, we would still be in the shit house because of the Influx of PRIMITIVE cultures here, how can anyone feel English in England when it is not English culturally.

They have attacked us, they get culturally protected whilst ours is governmentally sponsored, eroded and choked, how on earth are we as a people going to solve this with out the means of force?, it aint going to happen the people of England better start speaking soon.

And I can say quite confidently that if a militant response happened, and it targeted the right areas, I can not say I would oppose it, in fact quite the opposite, folks it is what is happening to use, we are being culturally cleansed.

An anti-Muslim rant if ever I saw one, and these people accuse anyone who dares disagree with them racist; I say again these people are rampant hypocrites!

Confession Time

OK, I give up, I was trying not to make it obvious, but BondWoman has let the cat out of the bag! So I suppose I had better confess now; yes I was BondBloke! I no longer post over there on Thoughts, but I remain as BondBloke on The Sensual Eye and A Brush With Art.

It was those "nice" people at the Campaign for an English Parliament who provided me with the sobriquet Numptie and I thought I would run with it and have some fun - I intend to make them regret every single insult, and to show them up for the bloody hypocrites that they are!

Update:

I would like to make it quite clear I am not giving up blogging. Maybe an explanation of my decision to leave The Thoughts of Bondbloke is required; there I was a part of a team of bloggers (I am not really a team player) and as such anything I wrote had an impact on them, and they don't really agree with some of my whackier viewpoints, even though they tolerate them. In the short time since I set up BondBloke (mid Jan) it has, I think, become moderately successful, and I do not want to jeopardise any growth of that success. The problem is that as part of a team I had to think carefully about my views instead of following my instinct which is to launch straight into a rant which will really stir up the loonies; I think that maybe I can do this better as an individual blogger where it affects only me, and has no impact on others.

Vindication of Earlier Thoughts

I always thought that some cyclists were a menace, and now it is confirmed. I know that this was a "freak" accident but one has to ask if the cyclist had his eyes closed at the time; it is also not made clear whether or not the deceased was on the pavement at the time of being hit. To be fair to cyclist, and I am one myself, pedestrians are not always very careful themselves, they have a tendency to simply walk out in front of you with never a care in the world, and then wonder why they get shouted at. However, from the point of view of a pedestrian, those idiots who cycle on pavements are truly a menace to all, even themselves!

It seems the highly strung soul over at and Bond Bloke is a little upset at being called rude names on our forum.

I do not object to being called rude names, but I do object to being insulted and having my intelligence questioned, especially, by those who often can't even spell!

OK I dont condone name calling, but Mr Bond clearly likes to post his own views on the net but has apparently decided to censor any dissenting views.

Yes I do like to make my views known; I am also prepared to enter into a reasoned debate with reasonable people. However, I do not think that name calling, abusive comments or insulting remarks are a reasoned debate. I also do not believe in censorship of any kind, except when insulting, bigoted comments are made by people who should know better, and who do not tolerate them on their forums or blogs; and I delete any such comments out of hand!

The sentence in question which caused the initial outcry was this “Funny I thought that the English Flag belonged to the BNP and the neo-fascists these days;”,

Bond later claimed that the comment was tongue in cheek, a familiar excuse for those who say something contraversial then live to regret it.

I did not make excuses for my "contraversial" (note the mis-spelling) comments, and if these people are too wrapped up in their own delusions to read what I write in its proper context, and to see the irony in it then I feel sorry for them; in its proper context this was a "tongue in cheek" remark and there was nothing to apologise, or to make excuses for!

Publishing a view on the internet is rather like shouting your views in a pub.

Strange analogy here, personally I don't see the point being made, maybe because I do not shout my views in the pub, I go there for a quiet beer and to talk to friends rather than to force my views on other drinkers as these people are hell bent on doing!
Shout the above comment down the 'Frog on Toast' on a Saturday night and you may attract some welcome and rather unwelcome attention.

So if it is something likely to provoke a reaction, and lets face it most bloggers (including Bond) get off on this stuff, then expect to reap the whirlwind.

I honestly don't know what to say about this piece of drivel except to say that it is an extreme case of the pot calling the kettle black!

If you advertise your email dont be surprised when people use it, especially when you have removed all comments from your site.

What has not been made clear here is that the comments removed from the blog were abusive, insulting, bigoted and worse... Further my email was not used, it was planted at a large number of porn sites with the express intention of flooding my inbox with spam. This is the treatment that handed out by these people when anyone dares disagree with them!

The writer of this site Liberati calls the posters on the forum (and probably all nationalists 'loonies') but does at least post alternative views and answer them.

Again what has not been made clear here is just how much how much abuse this blogger had to endure, and how much he had to throw their lunatic remarks back at them before they would even be reasonable…

I am not one of those who writes emails. I have been on the receiving end of a few campaigns myself, some of them (National Front, the self styled SNLA and Combat18) a great deal less savoury than the one liberati finds himself under.

If this is true, and I am not saying that it isn’t, then the author should know better…

I am just someone who feels that the current democratic inbalance is unfair.

No one is disagreeing that the “democratic inbalance” is unfair, most are just trying to say that we disagree with their point of view as to what an English Parliament should be; however this is the very thing that gets such people so wound up.

So we have the "rules"; what do they tell us? Well I am afraid that we are off down the road of hypocrisy and double standards yet again! It seems that they do not like "personal abuse", well here are some of their comments aimed at me:-

"This guy is a moron that uses lies."
"Well Mr dickhead"
"what a total tosser"
"He isn't a blogger, bloggers have balls. This guy is a utter moron"
"Looks like he is from Edningburghg, so a West Britain racist by the looks of things" [I just had to include this poorly spelt and geographically incorrect (Edinburgh (corrcet spelling) is on the East Coast of Scotland) piece, it was too good to resist!]
"This person is typical of the liars who spout off about England, call us racist while stupidly exposing their own racism as they do so."

If that little lot does not come under the heading of personal abuse then I am a monkey's uncle, and I am not sure that my brother's children would very much appreciate being labelled monkies...

Rule No. 2 is "No personal threats". Well I would very much like to know how they square this circle, as I had a remark from a fellow blogger which gives the lie to this rule:-

"As regards the COSG lot, I have had a run-in myself with them in the past when I was involved in the whole regional devolution debate a few years ago. We even got nasty threatening phonecalls from an ex-pat patriotic Englishman."

Sorry, I got a bit lost there, I had forgotten all about the hypocrisy and double standards of these people...

A Campaign for an English Parliament or Hypocrisy?

So I have set the parameters for this blog, time to begin the serious work; time to go on the offensive! First up I would like to draw attention to the CoSG blog and the rules thereof:-

Rules
God moves in mysterious ways, and so do our moderators.
The blog is a place for some fine minds (us) to give you (the great unwashed) some pearls from our dubious wisdom on any subject we think fit.
Feel free to register and add comments, however abusive and racist entries will be removed as will any other entries we dont like.
We all hang out here at the forum when we are not blogging, so you can argue with us there.
The contributors are airing their own views and as such do not represent anyone but themselves.

Now I have fallen foul of these people before, and it was they who very kindly provided me with the sobriquet Numptie. But their "Rules" are somewhat puzzling to me as it was they who were leaving "abusive and racist" comments and howling like crazy that it was censorship when such comments were deleted. So, as far as I can see, these people work on the principle of "don't do as I do, do as I tell you"; we have to abide by their "rules" but they are free to ignore ours - oh, what is the word I am seeking here? AH! I've got it, hypocrisy; yes, I think that word fits perfectly.

"The contributors are airing their own views and as such do not represent anyone but themselves"; this may be the case, but "the contributors" do not like others "airing" their views, especially if those views differ from their own, and will vehemently attack anyone who dares disagree with them; I think we can add double standards to the hypocrisy label as well.

"Enjoy" - oh, I will, I most certainly will enjoy!

I want to start here as I mean to continue, alone! No one else is going to be invited to join this blog because I wish to say what I think without having to consider the implications of what I say on others. Those who know me will be aware of my previous incarnation where I fell foul of a bunch of loonies; well here I can take on those racist bigoted morons without having to think about the sensibilities of others.

A message for those loonies who will undoubtedly wish to take me on; I will only engage in reasonable debate, and this is not the "I'm right and you're wrong" type of debate, if that is whjat you want then I will not respond to such comments other than to point out your stupidity. I will not tolerate abusive, insulting or vulgar comments; any such comments will be deleted without any response at all!
